I have over 25 years of experience in human services -- ranging as a clinician and Associate Clinical Director for an outpatient clinic in Cambridge, a clinician in an elementary school and after-school behavior modification program, Program Coordinator for trans-racially adopted children, and a child-care provider. My most recent clinical focus has been working with complex blended families. I also have significant experience working with people touched by adoption (adopted people, birth parents, and adoptive/foster parents).
My approach is strengths-based and normalizing. Rather than looking for what is "wrong with you", I look at you holistically in your larger context, with deep respect and compassion.
For example, acknowledging how coping skills that worked well when you were a child may no longer serve you now, and how difficult it can be to give up.
I view you as a "client" rather than a "patient", because we collaborate as a team.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I completed my Masters Degree at Lesley University in Expressive Arts Therapy and Counseling Psychology. I utilize traditional talk therapy, mindfulness, guided meditation, and trauma informed interventions.
I have also studied Family Constellations work for several years, as it complements and informs seeing issues in a systemic way. These alternate modalities are useful when words fail us, or when the source of our distress is not clear.
